Sergei Lavrov and Rex Tillerson in a meeting in New York re-affirmed their commitment to the agreement about resolving conflicts in Syria. This was announced by the US Department of State. For more details about the meeting of Russian and American foreign ministers, we go to Valentin Bogdanov.
First, several words about the circumstances of this meeting. It took place at the Russian embassy, and was coordinated by the UN. Sergei Lavrov went there straight from the airport, after landing.
A little later, the US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, also arrived there. The fact that Tillerson came to the Russian mission himself gives us a reason to believe that it was the American side who insisted on having this meeting. And, of course, it makes for more proof that the isolation of Russia, which US representatives tried to push for during several sessions of the General Assembly, is out of the picture.
Indeed, in a short statement Maria Zakharova, the press secretary of Russian Foreign Minister, mentioned that the main topics were resolving the situation in Syria, the Middle East and North Africa, as well as progress on the Minsk Protocol.
No other comments on this meeting have been made so far. No official footage from the event have been made available to us either.
