The Pyeongchang Olympics Rest on a Nuclear Powder Keg

On Thursday, the Korean Central News Agency issued a statement of an MFA spokesman, saying basically that the war between North Korea and the USA was unavoidable.

"The situation on the Korean Peninsula is explosive, and no one really knows when the war is going to break out. US war fanatics are hysterically crying about war, making it a reality. It's just a matter of time".

Actually, all this makes me feel the chill of a nuclear winter when radioactive dust and smoke of fires doesn't let the sunlight get to the ground, making every living thing on the planet freeze to death in the dark.

We've all been reduced to this by the USA, for their military action gets more unpredictable and less professional. The United States coordinates their military strategy and major foreign policy issues with no one including their allies. As a result, everyone may become a victim.

The statement of Nikki Haley, US Permanent Representative to UN is illustrative. She made it on the FOX News TV Channel on Thursday. She said that US officials hadn't made up their minds on US participation in the coming Olympic Games.

Nikki Haley: "This is an open question. I have not heard anything about that, but what I do know is that in the talks that we have it's always about how we protect the US citizens in the area".

Wait a minute, this sounds alarming. Maybe, Nikki Haley knows something that nobody else knows? Maybe, there's still no decision on the US participation in South Korean Olympics because there's the decision to unleash a war there?

On Friday, Sarah Sanders, the White House representative, disturbed the atmosphere even more. So, US athletes won’t go to Pyeongchang?

Sarah Sanders: "That wasn’t exactly what the ambassador said. No official decision has been made on that, and we’ll keep you guys posted".

These statements are being made while an unprecedentedly massive exercise between the US and South Korean air force is taking place. There is a 230 aircraft armada, including B-1B Lancer strategic bombers and F-22 stealth fighters.

The latest news is that a big US Naval Force squad has departed to the same region to take part in the exercise, including three nuclear aircraft carriers – the Ronald Reagan, Theodore Roosevelt, and Nimitz, and also more than ten US escort ships, and submarines.

Apart from that, all this costs a great deal of money. Trump knows how to handle finance. We remember that the financial issue was one of the main reasons for the American nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, namely the report to taxpayers on the effectiveness of a new costly weapon, according to the poster on the wall at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. So, the scale of the US military expenses that have been registered lately is telling. Why do they need to frighten the North Koreans, if they have already shown that they are not going to be made afraid?

Americans judge by themselves, but North Koreans are quite different. It seems that US’ allies are different too. They are still trying in vain to caution Trump against the war. Not to mention Russia and China; we definitely don't want a nuclear war nearby.

On top of that, the Olympics in South Korea’s Pyeongchang is coming. These games promise to be unfortunate. It's bad enough that tickets for the Olympic events haven't been sold out. Tourists are afraid to go there because of the war threat. What is more, without the full participation of Russia the games will be less spectacular, and less professional in terms of sports.
