BREAKING: Putin’s Open Press Conference - He Explains Why He Runs for President Again

Dmitry Peskov: Traditionally, we usually let our veterans, the Kremlin pool, ask their questions first. But I'd like to alter this tradition a bit. And let Govorit Moskva ask a question as, firstly, it's a new generation of journalists, and, secondly, they've been one of the most active media in our everyday work, asking most of the questions. Dmitry Sergeevich, thanks, it's unexpected.

Govorit Moskva radio station, Dariya Knorre: Vladimir Vladimirovich, why are you running for the presidency? What's your goal, your mission? What do you want to do for Russia? What's your vision of the country at the end of your term if you win the elections? Thank you.

Vladimir Putin: You know, I've told many times what I'd like Russia to be, both at public and low-key events. And I'll repeat it. Russia should be future-oriented, modern, with a flexible political system, high-tech economy. The productivity should multiply. I wouldn't like to speak about the election program, which I'll have along with other candidates, Mine is almost developed. I don't think it's a suitable format to present it. But I can tell you what the authorities and the community should focus on. To be specific, it's developing infrastructure, healthcare, education, high technologies, as I've already said, increasing labor productivity. And, undoubtedly, everything should be meant to increase the people's income. Well, it's in broad terms. I guess we'll get back to this issue in the course of today's conversation.
