Sobchak Pulls Political Master Maneuver, Chooses to Focus Her Efforts on Campaigning in US Instead

While other potential candidates are campaigning in Russian regions, Sobchak went to the US.

While other potential candidates are campaigning in Russian regions, Sobchak went to the US.

My colleague Stas Natanzon is following her US tour.

- Hello, Ksenia Anatolievna, have you enjoyed your flight?

- I have, thanks.

Having noticed the shooting, she looks away and, as the boarding bridge is ready, asks her aids to help conceal from the cameras her descent onto the US soil. Goodbye, have a nice day.

At the airport, Ksenia Sobchak doesn't feel like answering questions either.

- May I ask you a couple of questions?

- No.

She seems to be in a hurry more than anyone in the line at the border patrol.

Her first public appearance is in the influential Center for Strategic and International Studies, which used to be managed by Henry Kissinger and Zbigniew Brzezinski. The first question is about the purpose of the visit to the United States.

Ksenia Sobchak, potential presidential candidate from the Civil Initiative party: "Our relations are at the lowest point in history. Even during the cold war, which we keep comparing our time to, there were no sanctions, thus, the situation has deteriorated. My task includes meeting people and talking to them, I want to be the first bridge between Russia and the USA."

Ksenia Sobchak said that she was going to meet with members of Donald Trump's administration, and US decision-makers. The exact list is not yet known.

Perhaps, she'll manage to meet with Trump as well, though not personally. Ksenia Sobchak has been invited to the Thursday Prayer Breakfast with the President. It's an annual event which brings together politicians from many countries. It's believed to be an opportunity for an informal talk with the US leader, which, however, rarely lasts longer than a few minutes or even seconds.
