Former Ukrainian pilot Vladislav Voloshin, who is suspected of attacking a Malaysian Boeing in the skies over Donbass, has committed suicide. However, originally, the police were calling it was a homicide. Voloshin recently started to complain about his life on social networks and hinted at high-profile disclosures.

Julia Shustraya has the details.

His death is being called both mysterious and easily explainable at the same time. Former Ukrainian pilot Vladislav Voloshin committed suicide. According to the authorities, he broke down under the strain of work. Voloshin recently engaged in the reconstruction of the airport in Nikolayev, acting as the director. They allegedly tried to hang debts on him. The Ukrainian media quote anonymous sources on the subject.

"One of Nikolayev's companies won a contract for electrical work at the airport, and it was worth about 60 million hryvnias. The company received an advance payment of 10 million and completed the majority of work".

According to an anonymous source, not too long ago, an order was given not to pay any more money to the contractor, opting to negotiate a contract for another company to do the electrical work instead. According to some reports, Voloshin could have been the pilot who shot down a Malaysian Boeing 777 flying over Donetsk in 2014. Although the Ukrainian authorities insist that Voloshin had no flights on that day, his involvement is confirmed by witness Agapov's testimony, and the fact that the pilot got a state award almost immediately after the catastrophe. So, seemingly, he knew a lot.

Boris Rozhin, military expert: "Ukraine has a lot of experience in such strange political 'suicides'. The most famous is the supposed suicide of Minister Kravchenko. Also, let's not forget the suicide of Kirpa via several shots to the chest. Thus, the suspicion is quite grounded. Besides, Ukrainian investigators initially filed a homicide case; they didn't call it a suicide".

Suicide is a convenient option for the Ukrainian side. Voloshin's testimony could have revealed the real culprits behind the plane crash.

Bogdan Bezpalko, political analyst: "Politically, his death can serve the same goal as Skripal's, to make it a provocation against Russia. I concede that Ukrainian politicians may present such accusations, including the President, the Prosecutor-General, or other public figures".

The report of the local police also raises the suspicion that it was a murder, not a suicide. It indicates that a PM pistol, which apparently didn't have a serial number, was the murder weapon.
