Russia’s Secret Weapon - the Raccoon! New Defense System NEUTRALIZES Enemy Drones

A raccoon that intercepts drones. Russian scientists are testing a new radar system that detects violating UAVs. The device is called the Raccoon. It's cheaper than its foreign analogues but no less effective.

Boris Maksudov with the details.

Andrey Pimanov, head of the PR department: "A locator detects a drone automatically. Then, we're able to see a video of the detected drone. We press the "neutralize" button".

Good eyesight and hearing. It's the Raccoon radar station. It can detect UAVs from over a mile away. Its radars will detect even very small aircraft. Even though a table is enough to see all the equipment, the system is no worse than military radars. The scientists assert that no drone will fly and no man will get past the Raccoon. Here it is, the unique gadget, the radar station, the eyes of the entire system. It's this that detects a UAV and transmits the signal to the screen. Russian engineers have combined the most modern detection technologies. Almost the same ones are used in aviation and the arms industry. The system is particularly used at civil objects: hydro-electric power stations, airports, bridges, where a UAV with a camera or a drone with a prohibited cargo could threaten the security.

Oleg Zinchenko, developer: "The most important thing is that it combines decent specs for its class and is very compact. It's quite cheap, it's available on the market with no restrictions in terms of the field of application".

Officially, there are 40,000 drones in Russia. There many ways to neutralize a UAV, drone water guns to up-to-date cell jammers. It's harder to detect unwanted guests en route. That's a problem that the Raccoon system solves.

Andrey Pimanov, head of the PR department: "UAVs today are able to carry hazardous substances, explosives. They can also transmit a jamming signal for radio-electronic devices. We're able to defend any object from this".

Not only Russians are interested in the gadget, there applications all around the whole world. Foreign analogues cost way more and their specs are not as good. Serial production is planned to be launched next year.
