Submarine Crew Awarded "Hero of Russia" Honor Posthumously For Last Minute Self-Sacrifice!

There's a 1st rank Captain, Denis Dolonsky, among them. He was awarded the Hero of Russia title a few years ago for research in the Arctic and Antarctic.

Another Hero of Russia, 1st rank Captain, a deep-water military equipment tester, Nikolay Filin. He was awarded the title of Hero last year for performing a special operation and showing courage and high professionalism.

1st rank Captain, Vladimir Abankin, Andrey Voskresensky, Konstantin Ivanov, Denis Oparin. The father of the latter, according to some sources, ran the tests of the deep-water apparatus, on which his son died on July 1st.

There are Konstantin Somov, 2nd rank Captains, Alexander Avdonin, Sergey Danilchenko, and Dmitry Solovyov. It was Dmitry Solovyov that pulled a civilian specialist out of the compartment that caught fire. Then, having locked down the hatch, he continued to extinguish the fire together with other crew members.

There is the Lieutenant Colonel of the Medical Service, Alexander Vasilyev.

According to the Defense Ministry, the killed submarine officers were excellent professionals, were given state awards for the performance of military duty and tasks set by the higher command several times. They took part in the most complex underwater expeditions to study the Arctic repeatedly. Thanks to timely, brave, and correct actions, at the price of their own lives, the submarine officers eliminated the source of the fire, saved their fellow officers and the deep-water apparatus.
