That's a repression towards the journalists, it violates freedom of speech.

RT was accused of destroying the US by the means of propaganda — a custard-pie allegation.

The true definition of propaganda is still unclear. The best definition was given by a British journalist, with whom I had a conversation once: "Propaganda — it's when I don't like what you're saying." The US doesn't like something RT is saying, and that's what they brand propaganda.

In this case, the US Constitution with its First Amendment that guarantees freedom of speech no longer works. Freedom of speech only for those who say something pleasurable. 19 American media are currently functioning in Russia including Voice of America and Radio Liberty. Say what you want, we have freedom of speech. No-one here has ever questioned your freedom of speech.

The USSR used to jam you. Since then, the tables have turned, and now the US "jams" us.

Vladimir Putin: "Russians say: "It would be funny if it weren’t so sad" because the ones doing it in the US have always zealously tried to prove their nation is the World's First Democracy and freedom of speech was their beacon of democracy. The attack on our media in the US is the attack on freedom of speech. No doubt about it.
We are "slightly disappointed", as they call it. And the project State Duma is currently considering might be a little too harsh but it's our natural reaction because the representative bodies of power often express bold assertions, harsh judgments and stringent proposals. Well, we must respond in one way or another. The one that'll mirror their decision".

It's obvious we too are going to step American propaganda on its toes. But their way is not ours. We advocate for freedom and against repressions.
