Was it Assassination? Leader of Serbs’ "Freedom, Democracy, Justice" Party Killed in Kosovo

A famous politician killed in Kosovo. It's the leader of the party "Freedom, Democracy, Justice" Oliver Ivanovic. According to the Blic, the politician was assaulted when entering the office of his party. Ivanovic got shot five times and was taken to hospital to die.

The police are currently searching for the assaulters.

After the death of Ivanovic the Serbian President summoned an emergency Security Council. The news was reported this Tuesday by the President's office. We'd like to remind you that Oliver Ivanovic was one of the Kosovo Serb leaders. In 2008-2012, he served as the State Secretary of the Ministry for Kosovo and Metohija. In 2016, the politician was sentenced to nine years in prison on suspicion of war crimes. Later, the verdict was annulled.

 

Stanislav Bushuyev, TASS correspondent: Prominent Kosovo Serb politician, leader of the SDP party Oliver Ivanovic was assassinated on Tuesday in Kosovska Mitrovica. Reportedly, it was an ambush and Oliver Ivanovic was shot five times. He was taken to hospital immediately but unfortunately, died in emergency.

The death was confirmed by his lawyer Nebojsa Vlajic and later, by the head of the hospital in Kosovska Mitrovica Milan Ivanovic.

In the wake of the murder of the prominent politician Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic convened an emergency meeting of the Security Council and is planning to address the people of Serbia afterward. Serbian government negotiators in Brussels withdrew from the talks with Kosovo Albanians and returned to Belgrade.

State Secretary of the Ministry for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Duric said the assassination of Ivanovic was a terrorist attack aimed to destabilize the situation in Kosovo and Metohija. It's an assault on all Serbian people.
