This week, the National Guard conducted large-scale exercises in the Arctic for the first time. First, troops from SOBR, Rys, and Terek, as well as the Vityaz Special Operations Center stormed an icebreaker in the Port of Murmansk.

The scenario goes like this: terrorists have hijacked an FSUE Atomflot vessel. To free the hostages, the National Guard launched a simultaneous assault on the icebreaker from the air, by land, and by sea. The actions of the air units, land-based units, and naval groups were observed by the Director of the National Guard of Russia, Viktor Zolotov. The criminals were neutralized within minutes.

The next day, the National Guard's proving ground was Franz Josef Land in the Arctic Ocean. The special forces operatives had to land in the Arctic during severe freezing conditions. The temperature was below -35°C (-31°F). All 22 soldiers landed precisely in the drop zone located in the proximity of specially deployed tents. The temporary camp was set up near the Nagurskoye air base's border service force. Border service troops and national guardsmen used snowmobiles and buggies to reach a mock terrorist base and destroy it.

Viktor Zolotov, the commanding officer, noted the well-orchestrated actions of his juniors as well as the great cooperation with the border service troops. At the end of the training, the best soldiers were awarded by the Head of the National Guard.
